Retreat Safety Guidelines
Your safety, comfort and wellbeing are important to us. These guidelines are designed to help you prepare for your retreat, participate safely and manage your wellbeing after returning home.
Every retreat and wellness programme is different. Please carefully review the programme details, inclusions, health requirements and instructions provided by the retreat centre before confirming your booking.
These guidelines provide general information only and are not a substitute for medical advice from a qualified healthcare professional.
1. Before Booking Your Retreat
Choose a Suitable Retreat
Select a retreat that matches your health needs, physical ability, personal goals and comfort level.
Before booking, carefully review:
- the purpose and structure of the programme;
- the treatments, therapies and activities included;
- the physical demands of the programme;
- the qualifications of doctors, therapists or practitioners;
- the accommodation and meal arrangements;
- the location and accessibility of the retreat;
- the minimum recommended stay;
- the retreat’s cancellation conditions; and
- any health restrictions or eligibility requirements.
Consult Your Healthcare Professional
Speak with your doctor or another qualified healthcare professional before booking if you:
- have an existing medical condition;
- are taking prescription medication;
- have recently undergone surgery or medical treatment;
- have allergies or dietary restrictions;
- have limited mobility or accessibility requirements;
- have a history of mental-health concerns;
- are pregnant or planning a pregnancy; or
- are unsure whether a treatment or activity is suitable for you.
Do not discontinue, reduce or change prescribed medication without consulting your treating healthcare professional.
Provide Accurate Health Information
Where requested, provide complete and accurate information about your health, medication, allergies, dietary requirements and treatment history.
Wherever possible, health information should be shared directly with the retreat provider or the qualified practitioner responsible for your programme.
Failing to disclose relevant health information may affect the safety or suitability of your treatments.
Understand the Programme
Ask for clarification before booking if you do not understand any treatment, therapy, dietary programme or activity.
Do not assume that a programme described as natural, traditional, detoxifying, rejuvenating or wellness-focused is suitable for every person.
Individual results may vary, and no specific medical, therapeutic, weight-loss or wellness result can be guaranteed.
Check Practitioner and Facility Details
Review the available information about the retreat, practitioners, facilities and programme supervision.
Where a retreat includes medical or therapeutic services, confirm whether the services are provided or supervised by suitably qualified professionals.
Plan Your Travel Safely
Before travelling:
- confirm your arrival and departure arrangements;
- share your travel details with the retreat or PickRetreats where required;
- keep emergency contact numbers easily accessible;
- carry suitable identification and travel documents;
- check destination-specific entry and health requirements;
- carry sufficient prescribed medication for the entire trip;
- carry copies of important prescriptions or medical records where necessary; and
- allow adequate time between long journeys and the start of intensive treatments.
Purchase Suitable Insurance
We strongly recommend purchasing appropriate travel and medical insurance before your retreat.
Consider coverage for:
- trip cancellation or interruption;
- medical treatment;
- emergency evacuation;
- pre-existing medical conditions;
- flight delays or missed connections;
- loss of baggage or personal belongings; and
- activities and treatments included in the retreat.
Prepare Personal Essentials
Depending on the retreat, consider carrying:
- comfortable and modest clothing;
- appropriate footwear;
- personal medication;
- prescriptions and relevant medical documents;
- sun protection and insect protection;
- a reusable water bottle where suitable;
- personal hygiene products;
- assistive devices or mobility aids; and
- any items specifically requested by the retreat provider.
2. During Your Retreat
Attend the Initial Consultation
Participate honestly in any medical, wellness or programme assessment conducted after arrival.
Inform the doctor, therapist or programme coordinator about:
- your current health condition;
- medication you are taking;
- allergies and sensitivities;
- recent injuries, surgery or illness;
- dietary restrictions;
- pain, discomfort or mobility limitations; and
- any change in your health since making the booking.
Follow Professional Instructions
Follow the reasonable instructions provided by qualified doctors, therapists, instructors and retreat staff.
Do not increase the intensity, duration or frequency of a treatment or activity without professional approval.
Do not share medicines, herbal preparations or therapeutic products with other guests.
Communicate Discomfort Immediately
Stop the treatment or activity and inform the responsible practitioner immediately if you experience:
- severe pain;
- dizziness or faintness;
- difficulty breathing;
- chest discomfort;
- an allergic reaction;
- unusual bleeding;
- severe weakness;
- significant emotional distress; or
- any other unexpected or concerning symptom.
Do not continue a treatment simply because it forms part of the booked programme.
Continue Prescribed Medication
Continue taking prescribed medication according to your doctor’s instructions.
Do not stop or alter medication based only on advice from another guest, online content or an unqualified person.
Any proposed change should be discussed with your treating doctor or an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
Follow Dietary Guidance Carefully
Follow the agreed meal plan and inform the retreat immediately if you have allergies, intolerances or adverse reactions.
Do not undertake fasting, restrictive diets, supplements or herbal remedies without appropriate supervision, especially if you have an existing medical condition.
Drink adequate safe water unless a qualified practitioner has advised otherwise for a specific medical reason.
Respect Your Physical Limits
Participate in yoga, exercise, walking, swimming and other activities according to your physical ability.
Inform the instructor about injuries or limitations before an activity begins.
Avoid forcing postures, movements or exercises that cause pain, dizziness or unusual discomfort.
Use Facilities Safely
Take reasonable care when using:
- swimming pools;
- saunas and steam rooms;
- treatment tables;
- wet or slippery areas;
- fitness equipment;
- walking trails;
- stairs and balconies; and
- shared wellness facilities.
Follow all safety signs and staff instructions.
Protect Your Personal Belongings
Keep passports, money, medicines, jewellery, electronic devices and other valuable belongings secure.
Use lockers or in-room safes where available and avoid leaving valuables unattended.
Maintain Hygiene
Wash your hands regularly and follow the retreat’s hygiene guidelines.
Avoid sharing personal-care items, medicines, towels or treatment products with other guests.
Inform retreat staff if you develop symptoms of an infectious illness.
Avoid Alcohol and Prohibited Substances
Follow the retreat’s rules regarding alcohol, smoking and other substances.
Alcohol or recreational substances may interfere with medicines, treatments, diets and wellness activities.
Respect Personal Boundaries
A practitioner should explain the nature of a treatment before it begins and obtain your agreement.
You may ask questions, request appropriate draping, ask for another staff member to be present or stop a treatment if you feel uncomfortable.
Report inappropriate behaviour, unwanted physical contact, harassment or privacy concerns immediately to the retreat management and PickRetreats.
Emergency Situations
In a medical emergency, contact the retreat’s emergency team, the nearest appropriate medical facility or local emergency services immediately.
PickRetreats is a booking and facilitation platform and does not replace local emergency or medical services.

These may include guidance relating to:
- diet;
- medication;
- rest and sleep;
- exercise or yoga;
- skin or body care;
- follow-up consultations;
- continuing or discontinuing retreat products; and
- returning gradually to your normal routine.
Return to Your Routine Gradually
Some retreat programmes involve changes in diet, activity, sleep or daily routine.
Avoid making sudden or extreme changes after returning home unless advised by a qualified healthcare professional.
Monitor Your Wellbeing
Pay attention to your physical and emotional wellbeing after the retreat.
Contact a qualified healthcare professional if you experience persistent, worsening or unusual symptoms after returning home.
Inform the healthcare professional about:
- the retreat you attended;
- the destination and travel dates;
- the treatments or therapies received;
- medicines, herbs or supplements taken;
- dietary or fasting programmes followed; and
- when the symptoms began.
Do Not Continue Treatments Without Guidance
Do not continue herbal medicines, supplements, fasting plans, intensive exercises or therapeutic practices beyond the recommended period without appropriate professional advice.
Products suitable during a supervised retreat may not be suitable for unsupervised or long-term use.
Attend Recommended Follow-Ups
Complete any follow-up consultation recommended by the retreat provider or your treating healthcare professional.
Keep copies of treatment summaries, prescriptions, test results and aftercare instructions where provided.

Contact the retreat provider promptly if you believe you experienced:
